Why a New Earth?

There are four verses in the Christian Bible that state that God will make, or has made in a prophetic sense, a new earth. So being curious I asked, If all the saved are going to go to heaven after death then why is there going to be a new earth?

Here are the scriptures that mention the new earth.

Isaiah 65:17
"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind."

Isaiah 66:22
"For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me," says Yahweh, "So shall your descendants and your name remain."

2 Peter 3:13
"Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells."

Revelation 21:1-2
"Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

Revelation 3:12b
"the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God"

Why does the "new Jerusalem" come down out of heaven if all the saved are going to be in heaven? There is one other interesting note that has to do with the earth in the future. What is it that the meek are to inherit?

Matthew 5:5
"Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth."

Psalm 25:13
"He himself shall dwell in prosperity, And his descendants shall inherit the earth."

Psalm 37:9 - 11
"For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on Yahweh, They shall inherit the earth. 10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."

Psalm 37:22
"For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off."

Psalm 37:29
"The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever."

Isaiah 49:8
"Thus says Yahweh: 'In an acceptable time I have heard You, And in the day of salvation I have helped You; I will preserve You and give You As a covenant to the people, To restore the earth, To cause them to inherit the desolate heritages;'"

Do the meek own the earth now? No, I don't think so, but will the meek own the earth in the next age?

Revelation 5:10
"And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth".

Proverbs 10:30
"The righteous will never be removed, But the wicked will not inhabit the earth."

Proverbs 2:22
"But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it."

Proverbs 11:31
"If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner."

Ecclesiastes 1:4
A generation passes away, and a generation comes; but the earth remains forever.

About this point one might hear a person say, "Well it doesn't matter where we are as long as we are with the Lord." I know how frustrating it is for those of you who study the scriptures to hear that last statement. If something is true and it is taught in the Bible then we understand how important it is for our understanding. God did not put anything in scripture that was unnecessary to our understanding. I should mention one thing for your further study. "heaven" and "the kingdom of heaven" are not necessarily the same thing.

Zephaniah 2:3, 12
"Seek Yahweh, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord's anger.
12 I will leave in your midst A meek and humble people, And they shall trust in the name of Yahweh."

Psalms 78:69 "And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever."
Note: The same Hebrew word is translated as land and earth.
