Have you ever thought about what the Bible says about the New Covenant? Did you know that scripture tells us exactly what is the New Covenant? Some covenants are conditional. Such as the one made at Mount Sinai.

Exodus 19:5
"Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation."

Some agreements are not conditional. One such covenant was made with Hagar concerning Ismael and his descendants. Sometime take a look at the differences between the promises made to Abram, Hagar and Ishmael and then Abraham and Isaac. Some of the promises are very similar, but there is one major difference between promises made for Isaac's lineage as opposed to Ishmael's lineage.

Have you ever wondered why Cain was guilty of murder if there was no law until Moses? What law was Moses teaching to the people two chapters before the giving of the ten commandments? God's law, his moral law, has always been in existence and it has never changed. God can not change nor can he change his morals. What was sin the day Adam was placed in the garden is still sin today. What is sin today was sin that same day. God can not change. Abraham knew God's moral Law. Abraham kept His law and did so willingly.

Genesis 26:5
"Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."

The ten commandments represent Yahweh God's marriage contract with Israel and the beginning of the Mosaic covenant that included the added Levitical priesthood, blood sacrifices and blood ordinances. However, there was a promise of better things to come.

Jeremiah 31:31
"Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith Yahweh:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith Yahweh, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."

This promise is repeated in Hebrews 8:8-10. It is also referred to again two chapters later.

Hebrews 10:16
"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith Yahweh, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them."

Now here is the New Covenant; it is God's Laws, His moral Law put into our hearts and written in our minds! You see only the laws that were added 430 years after the promises were for all time satisfied by Christ. He became our high priest replacing the Levitical priesthood. He also became our perfect sin offering negating the need for any further sacrifices.

Galatians 3:17
"And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect."

Galatians 3:19
"Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator."

Now for one more point that was given to me by one who emailed me.

Hebrews 7:19
(for the law made nothing perfect), but on the other hand there is the introduction of a better hope through which we draw near to God.

The Greek word translated introduction, "bringing in" in the KJV, means superimposition. The definition for the word superimposition is "place or lay (one thing) over another, typically so that both are still evident". So the new covenant did not replace, but was laid over the first covenant. Both are still evident and with us today. So the perfect law made nothing perfect, but we were given a better hope with the new covenant over laid upon the first.
