God's Moral Law has been in existence as long as God has been in existence. God's morals are a part of his identity. I believe that we are saved by grace. However I believe that we still follow God's Law because we love Him and the Law is our schoolmaster to perfection.

1 Kings 8:61 "Let your heart therefore be perfect with YHWH our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day."

I will make a comment proceeded by "-" then read the next verse and see if what I say makes any sense. I have come to this view by looking at what the vast majority of scriptures say about the law. In my past I was taught a view that had a lot of conflicts with other scriptures. Now they all work together. For this article we will look at Romans chapter 7.


-The only people who would know the law were the Israelites because God gave it only to them. (Deuteronomy 4:8)

1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

-We were under judgement of the law because of our sin, but because of our rebirth, in baptism, the judgment of the law (death) is removed from us and we become the bride of Christ.

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

-But now we are delivered from the judgment of the law (death)(Romans 6:3-4). We are not to mindlessly obey the letter of the law, but to obey the law in it's spirit, it's full intent. That is what Christ taught. (Don't just not kill your brother, but don't hate him either)

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

-Paul here tells us why we need the law, God's moral law.

7 What shall we say then? is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

-There can not be sin without the law.

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

-With out law there is no sin, but then we live in lawlessness. Lawlessness is also translated iniquity in the Bible.

9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

-Note here that the commandment (law) was ordained to life.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

-Unfortunately we are sinful creatures.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

-Note that the law is not bad or evil here. Also note the verb tenses in verses seven, twelve and thirteen. Why would Paul say what he said in those verses after telling us what he did in verse four? Perhaps our view on verse four and others like it has not been correct?

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

-Paul talks about the conflict that is in us all, to do good or evil.....

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

-We should do likewise. Paul is an example for us.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

-Notice here that Paul talks about another law that is evil... It is not God's law.

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

-Note here that Paul says that he serves the Law of God, unfortunately many today think that it is done away. So perhaps those people know better than Paul? I once thought as they.

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

-We stand condemned under the law because we are imperfect creatures, but because of Christ sacrifice we no longer owe the debt of death.

8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

-(I split verse 2 for emphasis here) This is God's law.......

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free.....

-Is this God's law here, His perfect Law, or the "evil law of sin" mentioned above?

... from the law of sin and death.

-By the way, it was not the law that was flawed here but us. We are the ones who are weak; we are the reason why the first covenant was replaced. Notice what the law was weak through.

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

-This verse says a lot.

4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

-If you know anything about the law only a kinsman could redeem a brother from a debt. If you were sold into bondage in Israel because of debt you could be rescued and released, but only by a blood relative, kinsman. That is why Christ had to be an Israelite as well. He is of the tribe of Judah. Think about what the word "redeem" implies. -Take a look at Hebrews 8:10

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

-Now the above verse is similar to Isaiah 59:21 Makes it sound permanent....

21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

-Hebrews 8:10 is a quote from Jeremiah 31:33

"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."

-Since this whole thing is from the old testament we need to look at it from that angle. Based on the above verses, What is the new covenant? Answer:

"I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts"

-What are God's laws that he would put into our minds and hearts? God's Law. Now one might say, "All of his laws?" All the laws that had to do with the blood ordinances (sacrifices) and the Levitical priesthood are totally satisfied by Christ. Thank You Lord! The Commandments, Statutes and Judgments are still in effect today. More of this can be seen by looking at Galatians. Chapter 3:

19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

-God's Law has always been in effect. So the law that was added was the Mosaic law covenant that had to do with the priesthood and the sacrifices. The problem with Moses' law that was added was that it required perfect obedience. When the seed, Christ, came grace now covers our sin. Praise Yahweh.

Proverbs 28:4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, But such as keep the law contend with them.
