A Good Example to Follow

Most everyone would agree with the statement that we can not be saved by obeying the law in the Bible. However, you can not please God with out obeying His Law, His moral Law! Many teach that God's Law is "done away", but if you ask them they will tell you that it is still wrong to commit murder, bear false witness or steal. The Law is not a work we do to be saved, but without obeying it we can not expect to be saved.

In the same manner immersion (baptism) is not a work we do to be saved, but without obeying it we can not expect to be saved. Please consider the scriptures below and especially ones like 1 Peter 3:21. Below is simply a listing of verses with the word baptism.

Matthew 3:16 (KJV) "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:"
Matthew 28:19 (KJV) "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"
Matthew 28:20 (KJV) "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
Mark 16:16 (KJV) "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."
Acts 2:38 (KJV) "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 2:41 (KJV) "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."
Acts 8:12 (KJV) "But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women."
Acts 8:13 (KJV) "Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done."
Acts 8:16 (KJV) "(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)"
Acts 8:36 (KJV) "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?"
Acts 8:37 (KJV) "And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
Acts 8:38 (KJV) "And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him."
Acts 9:18 (KJV) "And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized."
Acts 10:47 (KJV) "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?"
Acts 10:48 (KJV) "And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days."
Acts 16:15 (KJV) "And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us."
Acts 16:33 (KJV) "And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway."
Acts 18:8 (KJV) "And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized."
Acts 19:5 (KJV) "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."
Acts 22:16 (KJV) "And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord."
Romans 6:3 (KJV) "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?"
Romans 6:4 (KJV) "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
1 Corinthians 12:13 (KJV) "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."
Galatians 3:27 (KJV) "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ."
Ephesians 4:5 (KJV) "One Lord, one faith, one baptism,"
Colossians 2:12 (KJV) "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."
Hebrews 10:22 (MKJV) let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies having been washed with pure water.
1 Peter 3:21 (KJV) "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"
Matthew 3:15 (NKJV) "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."
The Greek word baptizo and it's various forms has not been translated in our Bibles, but rather it has been transliterated. If it had been properly translated it would have been rendered, "to immerse" or "to dip". In one case in non-scriptural literature baptizo was used to explain that a ship had sunk. It was fully immersed in the water. Fortunately the scripture teaches in Romans 6:3 and 4 that we rise from the water to "walk in newness of life". In Hebrew 10:22 the word "washed" comes from louo which means "to bathe (the whole person...)".
